Red Cross drought relief reaches Hambantota

eight lorry loads of Red Cross relief items for the drought-stricken families of Hambantota reached its destination yesterday. The relief items collected over the past week at the Red Cross Relief Collecting Centres in Colombo and the suburbs, ranged from dry rations to various plastic household appliances and cloth.

The convoy of lorries carrying the relief items started its journey on Saturday morning from Colombo and received individual donations enroute to Hambantota. The Red Cross District Branches of Kalutara, Galle and Matara also added their contributions which were collected at their respective district branches over the past few weeks.

1000 families of Bendiwewa, Vediwewa, Ranmuthuwewa, Andarawewa, Weheragalayaya of the Sooriyawewa division were the recipients of Red Cross drought-relief packages, which contained 25 kgs of rice, 20 kgs of flour, 20 kgs of dhal and 04 kgs of sugar each for consumption for 45 days for a family comprising 06 members.
