Singer-SriLankan Airlines Rugby Sevens kicks off next week The hill capital will be ablaze with roars and cheers when the Singer/SriLankan Airlines Rugby Sevens kicks off at the Bogambara International Stadium this weekend. The city will take on a carnival atmosphere when cheer squads and supporters converge on Kandy to cheer their teams as they vie for the coveted rugby trophy. The tournament which kicks off this Friday, September 14 with the schools tournament will be followed by the tournament proper over the weekend on September 15 and 16. Besides the 15 foreign participating teams the event will bring in flocks of visitors to the country for the event. These visitors together with the crowds to back the home team Sri Lanka will make Kandy a hive of activity by day and night. Teams from Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Arabian Gulf, Singapore and Chinese Taipei will draw in a hoard of supporters to cheer their teams. Each team will also have an individual team of tour officials. The large support group accompanying each participating foreign team has created excellent exposure for Sri Lanka and its national carrier in each of the participating countries. |
