The Tea Small Holdings Development Authority (TSHDA) has despatched 15 lorries of grass to drought hit areas in Hambantota, TSHDA President Rohana Illangaratne told the Daily News yesterday. "Every one had forgotten that there are cattle in the South", Illangaratne said. Many have died because grass in this areas is parched and Hambantota known for its livestock farming is in dire straits. Mr. Illangaratne said that 75 lorries were sent to Hambantota with dry rations. Each of the eight district organisations of the TSHDA will despatch 25 lorries of dry rations to drought victims next week. Five of the 25 lorries will carry grass, he said. Mr.Illangaratne added that four hired water bowsers have also been sent to Hambantota. |
