New Director-General at EDB L.S. Geoffrey Tillekeratne has been appointed Director-General of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Mr. Tillekeratne is a B.Sc Honours Graduate of the University of Ceylon with Post Graduate qualifications in Food Science and Technology. he is an associate Member of the Institute of Chemistry of Ceylon, Chartered Chemist and an Alumnus of the London Business School. He has also received training overseas in Industrial Extension Services, Advanced Management and Export Marketing. Mr. Tillekeratne has over 30 years experience in the public sector in the fields of Industrial Development, Export Promotion and Development. He joined the Industrial Development Board of Ceylon in 1968 as a Graduate Trainee and rose to the position of Director Extension Services. He joined the EDB in 1981 as Director Projects. As Director Projects he was instrumental in the implementation of several direct assistance and incentive schemes for export enterprises. He initiated the well-known Export Production Villages Program (EPV) to harness rural raw materials and production skills for the export development effort. In 1997 he was appointed Additional Director General of the EDB and was in charge of a special project to develop Small and Medium Enterprises (SMES) and the Regional Offices network to promote exports from the regions. He is a Consultant to United Nations Organisations such as the International Trade Centre, in Geneva (ITC), the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on SME development and has related fields and represented Sri Lanka at many international fora. The Ministry of Internal, International Trade and Commerce and Shipping Development is under the purview of the President at present. |
